Determination of essential oils, antioxidants and antimicrobial effects of Ferula assa-foetid from different area of Iran

Asafoetida (Ferula assa-foetida L.) is an important genus of Ferula which it has worthy industrial and medicinal properties. In this research, essential oil composition of Ferula assa-foetida (seed, resin and root) which were collected from different area of Iran were analyzed by using GC/ and GC/MS. Antioxidant activities of extractions were evaluated by using stable 2,2- diphenyl 1-β- picryhydrazyl free radical. On the order hand, Antibacterial effect of Ferula assa-foetida essential oils were examined on Staphylococcus aurens (ATCC113), Streptococcus pyogenes (ATCC1447), Pseudomonas aeruginos (AtCC 1599), Enterococcus focalis (ATCC 1393) and Fscherichial coli (ISIRI 1552) with four methods (well diffusion, disk diffusion, propelite and spread plate). According to our result, chemical composition of essential oils included Sulphurous compounds oxygenated sesquiterpenes, sesquiterpenes hydrocarbons, monoterpenes hydrocarbons, oxygenated monoterpenes and other components such as n-alkanes. Our results indicated that the lowest antioxidant activity (IC50) was observed in resin from Yazd and Gonabad roots. The highest IC50 was obtained in Tabas (1) and Yazd roots. This data were compared with buthyl hydroxyl toloen (21Th/ml) as control. The minimum content of total phenol (sy CAELg) in Yazd and Tabas roots The highest content of phenol was observed in extracted sample from root of Khorasan and Tabas (2). In spread plate method essential oil had an obvious effect on growth of bacteria and a retention time was observed in growth of bacteria. After 18h the most sensitivity of bacteria positive geram bacteria such as E. fecalis, S. pyogenes and S. aurens. With attention to our finding in comparison of essential oil and anti biotic effects most of micro organisms (except E. coli), and eimipenum (antibactery) had a same effects on bacteria While ٧٨ other bacteria (with dilution of 50 and 100) had a larger growth inhibitory zone than gentomicine. S. pyogenes and E. focalis had a more sensitivity than gentomicine.
