Evaluation and selection on family lines and production new O.P. Sunflower (H. annuus L.) varieties.

To produce sunflower seed of open pollinated varieties, the posovoit's reservation method were used in Oil Research Department of S.P.I.I. Therefore 1200 heads in Open pollinated condition (half seed), were selected from Elite sunflower seed farms every year: The. criterions for selection were early.maturity, black seed coat, low height, and they must have some general characters of its variety. Other screening criterion was enough seeds per head, because two part of total must be sown in two years, and one part reserved for blending the best selected heads that been clear in two years. Progeny-test was conducted for first year with 200 head for Annavirsky, 200 for Record and 200. head were selected in first season. These selected lines were sown in one row along 3 meter in 2004. Super-elite seeds was sown in one row alternate every 10 row of a variety as control. Some lines were omitted, because they had some undesirable characters as branched type, and had not uniformity in the line. According two standards: 1-To take care of open pollinated seed yield per plant and seed oil percent, 2- To give attention to desirable agronomic traits and oil percent with high evaluation score. .We selected 66 half-seed of Armavirsky, Record and progress depends on first criteria and 99 H.S. of Armavirsky, Record and progress regarding second standard. Another part of reserved seeds were sown in Progeny test in one .row for second year. In this year 69 Armavirsky, 47 progress' and 51 lines were selected. O.P. varieties lines were mixed to produce breeder seeds for every variety. Second program: S0 progeny test for selection were conducted to produce new O.P, sunflower variety. In this program 816 S2 lines were evaluated and selected.
