The state of Perlis is located in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia along the Malaysia-Thai border in the north, with Kedah to the east and south. The most prominent topography of Perlis is limestone hills. Wang Kelian Forest Reserve is one of the limestone hills located near the border with Thailand. During a field survey of the family Araceae conducted at the Wang Kelian Forest Reserve between 28 September 1999 and 5 October 1999 12 genera and 18 species of aroids were recorded. The genera and species found are Aglaonema (A. nitidum and A. simplex); Alocasia (A. denudata and A. lowii); Amorphophallus (A. elegans and A. carneus); Arisaema (A. roxburghii, A. wrayi); Colocasia (c. esculenta var. esculenta and C. gigantea); Epipremnum (E. giganteum); Homalomena (H. coerulescens and H. trapezifolia); Pothos (P. scandens); Raphidophora (R. beccarii); Schismatoglottis (S. calyptrata var. calyptrata); Scindapsus (S. perakensis) and Typhonium ( T. filiforme).
