The main objective of this study was to estimate the heterosis and combining ability in the F1 the F2 generations to define and select the efficient and prospective material to use it immediately in hybrids commercial production to improve seed yield of field bean in Egypt. Seven widely parents were selected for this investigation. All possible combinations between them without reciprocals were made to produce F1 and F2 generations. Genotype mean squares and its components of the parents and crosses were significant for the studied traits in both F1 and F2 data. Significant heterosis for both F1 and F2 were obtained for seed yield per plant and that it was large in magnitude in the F1 than F2 generation. The mean squares associated with general and specific combining abilities were significant for all traits in both generations. The magnitudes of the ratios of GCA/ SCA revealed that the additive and additive x additive types of gene action were more important for all traits except number of pods per plant and seed yield per plant in F1 generation. The parental line I. 131 gave the highest desirable GCA effects for all traits except number of pods per plant. However, Egyptian cultivar Giza-1 gave the highest significant positive GCA effects among allover the tested parental lines for number of pods per plant. The parental line NEB 319 exhibited significant desirable Gi for all traits in F1 data, while it was the best combiner for maturity date and chocolate spot resistance in the F2 generation Equadols gave significant positive Gi for 100-seed weight in both F1 and F2 generations.
