The investigated area has a humid climate of the continental type. Represented are the following types of soil: district cambisol, humose silicate soil and colluvial soil. The following types of forest communities are present: Luzulo-Quercetum petraeae, Fagetum croaticum montanum neutrophyllum, Querco-carpinetum croaticum staphyletosum and Frangulo-Alnetum glutinosae. On the basis of the data, daily air temperature on the top of the mountain range is 23,8'C and at the foot of the mountain is 19,4'C. Daily soil temperature differentiates for 2,0'C. The temperature inversion of 4,4'C. causes the inversion of vegetation. The analysis of root structure shows the noticeable differences. Quercus petraeae by its strong root net is strongly grown in and protects soil from erosion. According to property (private or public forests) evident differences in appearance and structure are found. According to the position of the investigated woods it is concluded that they usually have a protective character, except for Fagetum croaticum montanum neutrophyllum.
