Investigation on the vectors of scrub Typhus and Schistosomiasis in the Sungai Singor area of the Temengor Forest Reserve, Hulu Perak [Perak], Malaysia.

A total of 59 field and forest rats (Rattus tiomanicus, Sundamys muelleri, Leopoldamys sabanus, Berylmys bowersii, Maxomys surifer, M. rajah) and tree-shrew (Tupaia glis) were examined for scrub typhus vectors, while 40 individuals of the four first named species were examined for schistosomiasis. Although a number of animal associated parasites were recovered, none of them were vector species for either disease. The ecology of both diseases is briefly discussed.
