In 1980-81 and 1981-82 seasons 39 and 47 genotypes sweet potato were evaluated at the Bangladesh Agricultural University Centre. In 1982-83 studies were made on 24 selected genotypes. Out of 24 genotypes, 5 were selected for regional yield trial. In 1983-84 the selected 5 genotypes yielded 29.7 to 40.7 t/ha at the Bangladesh Agricultural University field. The number of genotypes was reduced to 3 for the 1984-85 trial. Through proper evaluation the National Seed Board has approved the release of two varieties. The popular names of the two newly released sweet potato varieties are Kamala Sundari and Tripti.
