Comparative studies on the natural flora of two mouzas in Nawabganj district [Bangladesh]. Section 2.
1986
Rahman M.U. | Akhanda R.U.
The two mouzas studied in 1985 are Maktapur and Bimorshi in Shibganj Upazila of Bangladesh. The former is an old alluvial dissected baring tract with relatively low water-table (150 ft), whereas the later is a new alluvial land with relatively higher water-table (50 ft). The number of tree species recorded in Maktapur was 35 and that in Bimorshi was 29. The number of shrubs and herbs were more or less equal in both. But the number of individual plants (trees, shrubs and herbs) are spectacularly higher in Bimorshi indicating higher specific coefficient in it than in the other. Some xerophilous trees and shrubs were either confined to or more in Maktapur as compared to those in Bimorshi. On the other hand, some hygrophilous species are found either confined to or more in Bimorshi than in Maktapur. There were two vertical layers of trees in both the mouzas; but the average heights of the layers were more in Bimorshi than in Maktapur.
