Caracteristicas de la flor y semilla del germoplasma de cacao Theobroma cacao l. seleccionado en Rosario Izapa, Chiapas.

Durante 1987 se realizo una investigacion para determinar las caracteristicas de la flor y la semilla de 31 clones de cacao RIM seleccionados en el Campo Experimental Rosario Izapa, ubicado en el municipio de Tuxtla Chico, Chiapas. Las caracteristicas de la flor fueron muy similares en los clones estudiados, siendo las de mayor variacion el largo del pedunculo y el ancho y largo del sepalo. Los clones RIM pueden clasificarse como de bajo numero de ovulos por ovario, el cual fluctuo entre 45.4 y 36.2. En la semilla, las caracteristicas que marcaron una mayor diferencia entre clones fueron el peso y contenido de la testa; por el contrario, el largo y ancho fueron bastante similares. En general los clones RIM estudiados se caracterizan por tener semilla grande de bajo contenido de testa. La poblacion de clones RIM presenta caracteristicas bastante similares para la flor y la semilla, lo cual es indicador de la baja variabilidad de estos caracteres.

During 1987 an investigation was undertaken in order to know the characteristics of the flower and the seed of 31 clones of cacao RIM selected in the Experimental Station Rosario Izapa, located in a section of Tuxtla Chico in Chiapas State. The characteristics of the flower were very similar to the studied clones, being the ones with more variation in length of the peduncle and in width in the sepal. The clones RIM may be classified as those with a lower number of ovules per ovary, which fluctuated from 45.4 and 36.2. In the seed, the characteristics which marked a larger difference among clones, were the weight and the content of the cuticle; on the other hand, the length and width were quite similar. In general, the clones RIM studied were characterized for having a big seed with a small cuticle content. The population of clones RIM present quite similar characteristics for flower and seed, which is an indicator to consider that a low variability occurs in these characters.
