A dietary survey of 372 residential students (13-19 years) was undertaken to determine food consumption and nutrient intake. Meals and snacks were calculated. Calorie and protein intake were 85.7% and 75.4% of RDAs (based on the 1976 Food Tables published by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences). Intakes of major vitamins and minerals, except iron, also were below the RDAs. Height and weight were compatible with means for the age groups. Findings suggest that the students' nutritional status in this middle school may be inadequate. (kbc).
