For mature eaters only: guidelines for good nutrition.
1984
Older people need fewer daily calories, but just as many nutrients as younger and more active persons. An older person should choose foods from each of the 4 food groups, but smaller servings are recommended to save money and avoid weight gain. Fiber is important in the diet to promote good digestion, while additional dairy products are valuable for their calcium content. Calcium protects against osteoporosis, to which the elderly are particularly vulnerable. To save money and share the burden of food preparation, sharing shopping, especially large purchases, and cooking chores with a friend provides monetary and psychological benefits. (kbc).
