The existence of surface K 88 and 99 antigens of Escherichia coli could comparatively easily be proved by serologic methods, that is, monospecific absorbed antisera. K 88 and K 99 antigens are highly specific and together give no positive serologic reactions. They have been found in strains of E. coli, isolated from 8 out of 36 investigated domestic and wild animals. Antigens have been found in 36.18% of the isolated strains of E. coli, that is, K 88 in 34.29% and K 99 in 1.88 % of the investigated cases. K 88 has been found in the highest percentage in strains of E. coli, isolated from pigs (43.10 %) and K 99 in strains isolated from kids and calves (15.78 % and 14.63 %).
