The effect of sex was examined on growth, feed utilization, fattening and slaughter characteristics from the start of fattening /26-32 kg/ till 60 kg average life weight on 621 animals /249 barrows, 271 sows and 171 boars/ kept in small groups with 0.75 m2/animal space capacity and fed according to their appetites. The boars achieved significantly better results in weight increase per diem than the barrows and sows /650 g/day, 584 g/day/. The tendency was the same when net weight gain for each life day was compared. The boars showed a better results by 12 o/o in carcase production for each life day than did the barrows and sows. When compared, the results of lard thickness amongst the slaughter characteristics, a significant difference was found between animals of different sex. The lard thickness measured on the bite was thicker in the sows by 15 o/o, and in the barrows by 22 o/o, than in the boars. The valuable meat part ratio was 46.14 o/o in the boars, 44.12 o/o in the sows and 42.17 o/o in the barrows.
