The dry matter accumulation dynamics of the Virginia hybrid Hevesi 5 was of non-reduction type, with the greatest intensity between the 42nd 70th days of the vegetation period. The rate of N uptake was of reduction type, reaching a maximum on the 70th day. The N concentration decreased in the order: leaf, stem, root. There was a greater N concentration in the drier year. The dynamics of P uptake was also of reduction type, though at the end of the vegetation period the decrease was very slight. The dynamics of K uptake was of reduction type, too. In all three plant organs the K concentration decreased sharply as the vegetation period proceeded. The rates of Ca and Mg uptake were of non-reduction type. Among the nutrient ratios, N/P, N/K and K/P changed only slightly during the vegetation period. The year effect was many times greater than the change in ratio parallel with the progress of the vegetation period.
