Comparative study on the yield and quality of four varieties of garlic (Allium sativum L.) as affected by granular and liquid fertilizer planted in two areas in two cropping periods.
1996
Untalan E.C.
The effects of granular and liquid inorganic fertilizer on the growth and yield of garlic were significantly affected by some morphological characteristics such as height increment, number of days from planting to maturity, average height at maturity, average number of bulblets. The observations were observed in the second set of planting in the western areas. However, fertilizer application did not influence the number of leaves developed from emergence to maturity, average fresh weight of bulb, average dry weight, and yield of bulb per plot, both in the first and second set of planting in the western experimental area. The western experimental area proved to have potential for garlic as evidenced by the high computed yield/ha of 7-9.4 tons which exceeds the national average yield of 7.5 tons (Cadiz, 1976). The experiment in the eastern area was prematurely terminated due to heavy infestation of nematodes and microscopic spider mites during the experimental period.
