Six commercial forage harvesters of different types were tested and compared with respect to operation quality (plant disintegration, seed damaging) at harvesting maize for silage at waxy seed maturity. The best seed disintegration, meeting the animal nutrition requirements, was obtained by the machines equipped with supplementary active rollers or threshing floor with scraping slats.
