The relation of leaf temperature measured with an infrared remote thermometer and the air temperature expresses the water supply of plants. If plants cannot cover the water quantity required for their transpiration from the soil, their foliage temperature surpasses air temperature. This positive temperature difference is the bigger, the bigger is the water lack of plants, the lower is the soil moisture or the higher is the air temperature, respectively. The foliage temperature data obtained by an infrared remote thermometer are considerably influenced by the sudden and important changements of radiation conditions. Therefore we can compare the leaf temperature of plants of different water supply in the case only if measurements were performed under identical radiation conditions.
