High yielding, high N2 fixing pigeon pea for Northern N.S.W. [New South Wales].
1994
Herridge D.F.
Gives detailed results of research on a number of pigeon pea genotypes, using different Rhizobia strains and different applications of iron and nitrogen fertilizers, to assess the value of pigeon peas as a summer nitrogen fixing crop for the alkaline soils of the Northern New South Wales wheat belt. While some results have been promising, research indicates that the problem of low nodulation, nitrogen fixation and grain yield of pigeon pea on the alkaline soils is a complex one, with the interactions of soil type, waterlogging and drainage problems, nitrogen and iron requirements still requiring better understanding.
