A total of twenty four (24) individually penned weaners were used to evaluate the feeding value of azolla (A. microphylla) silage on growing pigs. They were randomly allotted to three treatments replicated eight times with one pig per replicate in a completely randomized design. Pigs in treatment 1 were fed control diet while those in treatments 2 and 3 were fed diets with azolla silage A (70% azolla + 30% corn) and azolla silage B (70% + 25% corn + 5% molasses), respectively. Both silage were fed in combination with concentrate mixture at the rate of 20% of the diet for 35 days. Average weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion efficiency of the pigs fed diets with azolla silage did not differ significantly from those fed control diets. 20% supplement of either of the azolla silage preparation reduced the feed cost per kilogram gain of the pigs. Results of the laboratory experimewnt on storage of azolla successfully provided anaerobic condition and appropriate pH are maintained.
