Protein accumulation and total RNA content in the endosperm of developing grain of Triticum durum in response to nitrogen fertilization.

إنجليزي. 400 kg. of nitrogen per hectare, given in split doses from sowing up to the boot stage, markedly influenced the accumulation of protein and the variation of total RNA content in the endosperm of developing grain of durum wheat. In the endosperm of fertilized plants the accumulation of protein proceeded at higher rates from the beginning of seed development and lasted a few days longer. This resulted in about 38% more protein than in the control. The RNA content increased at the same rate but its accumulation continued for a few more days in the endosperm of nitrogen fertilized plants which showed 16% more total RNA than the control. The reduction in the RNA content which occurs in the late stage of seed development was delayed and less severe in the nitrogen fertilized plants. The maintenance of high levels of RNA in the endosperm of maturing grain of nitrogen fertilized plants is regarded as the consequence of the longer-lasting process of protein accumulation.

ITALIANO: Una forte concimazione azotata (400 kg/ha in dosi frazionate dalla semina allo stadio di botticella) influenza notevolmente l'accumolo di proteine e il contenuto di RNA totale nell'endosperma delle cariossidi in maturazione del grano duro. Nell'endosperma delle piante sottoposte a concimazione l'accumolo di proteine procede a livelli piu alti fin dall'inizio dello sviluppo del seme e si arresta alcuni giorni piu tardi. Questo porta ad un aumento di proteine di circa il 30% rispetto al controllo. Il contenuto in RNA totale aumenta alla stessa velocita ma il suo accumolo continua per un periodo piu lungo nelle piante fertilizzate che mostrano circa il 16% in piu di RNA rispetto al controllo. La caduta nel contenuto di RNA che si osserva negli ultimi stadi di sviluppo del seme e ritardata e meno forte nelle piante sottoposte a concimazione. Il mantenimento di alti livelli di RNA nell'endosperma delle cariossidi delle piante concimate e visto come una conseguenza di un piu prolungato processo di accumolo delle proteine.
