Planting corn under zero tillage tended to reduce germination of seeding in comparison to conventional tillage and zero tillage with a removal of all crop residues. Under the condition of a good rainfall distribution in 1982 trial, grain yield from different tillage systems was not different. There was a tendency that zero tillage gave a beneficial effect on seed weight per ear and seed size characteristics. Under circumstance of a poor rainfall distribution during early growing season in 1983 which reduced the effectiveness of herbicide, the superiority of conventional tillage to zero tillage was recorded on grain yield and yield components. An application of the 15-15-15 fertilizer tended to cause a beneficial effect on plant height, ear height, seed size and grain yield. An application of the 15-15-15 fertilizer at the rate of 50 kgs/rai appeared to be an optimum rate for corn production. When corn plant was at the stage of 25 days after emergence, soil moisture at the depth between 0-25 centimeters was greater for conventional tillage than zero tillage. The opposite result was recorded at 75 centimeters soil depth.
