Preliminary study of fresh-water rotifers culture was conducted by using dry chicken manure at three levels: 0.7, 1.8 and 2.9 gm/liter in circular concrete tanks with a capacity of 275 liter each. Observations were made two day intervals on the changes in number and species of rotifers in experimental tanks. In addition, water quality analyses in relation to abundance of rotifers was observed. Experimental period was 31 days, from November 11 to December 12, 1984. dry chicken manure at all levels were able to increase rotifer production. The level of 1.8 gm/liter produced maximum production and the level of 2.9 produced minimum production. However, the level of dry chicken manure that produce maximum production in the shortest period of abundance were: 0.7, 1.8 and 2.9 gm/liter, respectively. There were 5 genera and 8 species of fresh-water rotifers observed in this study. They are Brachionus calyciflorus Pallas, Br. forficula Wierzejski, Asplanchna brightwelli Gosse, Lecane luna (O.F.M.), Br. angularis gosse, Br. quadridentatus Hermann, Filinia longiseta (Ehrenberg) and Polyarthra dolichoptera Idelson. It was shown that abundance of the first four species were significantly correlated with any items of water quality studied.
