It is important to develop an efficient production system in Suriname for the poultry industry because chicken is an important source of protein for nearly all groups of the population. The poultry industry in Suriname has had to deal with a lot of problems in the past few years. One of the main problems is the need of large amounts of foreign currency. The developed production system therefore has to lower the production costs and the foreign currency component has to be kept at a minimum. This report is an orientation research of the current production situation in Suriname. The purpose of the project was to investigate the nutritional efficiency, weight increase and the percentage of original body weight after slaughtering and the removal of the feathers and intestines and/or body parts, under conditions in Suriname.
