In an area, where an outbreak of nun-moth, Lymantria monacha L. occured in 1964-1967 (Waldviertel, Lower Austria) various tests were carried out with R. pheromon baited traps (Disparlure). The traps had been installed in square-formations (one per 1-4 hectars) or in a single row at distances of 500 meters to study the attracting effect (area influences by one trap) and the density of present nun moth population. Further the effect of biophysical influences was considered. The most male nun moth were captured with the traps on the borders of the square formations and in biophysically influences areas. The areal effectivness of the traps in square formations ranged at about 1 hectar. Single traps showed the best results and attracted the nun moth from a surrounding area of 2,62 hectars (at a mean temperature between 10.00 p. m. and 02.00 a. m. of 9 degree C). Due to these results the population density of nun moth can be calculated approximately with the formula: Number/hectar = Number per pheromon baited trap X 0,38.
