In this work we report the sudden presentation of respiratory upsets in pigs. Symptoms were characterized by coughing, anorexia, laying down, and fever, affecting a significant number of animals, with low mortality and quick recovery. The epizooty was confirmed, by virus isolation and identification, as produced by influenza virus type A. Isolations were achieved in samples from 11 close herd farms in Segovia province (Spain), although identification was performed only in 9 of them. From the total isolated strains /33/, thirty were identified as influenza virus type A subtype H1N1, similar to isolates detected in Spain in 1982 and the remaining /3/ were identified as H3N2, similar to the strain A/Ghent/1/84, closely related to the strain A/Port Chalmers/1/73.
