Efecto de la fertilizacion potasica y fosfatada en gladiolos (Gladiolus hybridus) en un suelo trumao, Serie Valdivia.

The effect of three phosphorus fertilizer rates (0, 100 and 200 kg P2O5/ha) applied as triple superphosphate and three potassium fertilizer rates (0, 50 and 100 kg K2O/ha) applied as potassium sulfate upon the quality of flower spike, corm and cormel production in gladiolus (Gladiolus hybridus) was studied. Furthermore, two harvesting objectives were assessed: corm production (with spike removal), and spike and corm production. The different fertilizer levels of both phosphorus and potassium were not conductive to changes in the flower spike quality. Earliness varied between 98 and 100 days from sowing to harvesting, length of flower spike ranged from 85.4 to 87.2 cm, number of florets per spike from 14.4 to 14.9, spike weight from 71.2 to 76.6 g and total biomass weight from 137.5 to 144.8 g. Corms presented no changes in physical characteristics in regard to the different rates of phosphorus and potassium applied. Corm weight ranged from 36.16 to 40.08 g, the number of corms per plant from 1.28 to 1.43, and corm diameter from 4.74 to 4.91 cm. Phosphate and potassium fertilizers independently affected weight of cormels per corm, in almost all diameter classes and total of cormels, where the rates of 200 kg P2O5/ha end 100 kg K2O/ha showed the highest values (12.67 g/plant and 12.14 g/plant, respectively). Regarding total number of cormels, the highest values were obtained with the rates of 200 kg P2O5/ha and 100 kg K2O/ha (45.72 cormels/plant and 41.12 cormels/plant, respectively). With respect to harvesting objectives, spike removal at emergence increased corm weight; however, no effect was observed on diameter and number of corms per plant. In similar manner, in almost all diameter classes and total of cormels, a higher weight and number of cormels per plant was recorded with spike removal.
