Alonso R Mario Patricio
The purpose of the present work was to evaluate the behavior of buckwheat in relation to different harvesting times in five locations in the province of Valdivia, Chile, harvesting times: 25 February, 5 March, 12 March and 20 March. During the performance of this research the following agronomic characters were analyzed: plant height, number of inflorescence per plant, weight of 100 grains, yield and harvesting index. The grain quality characters analyzed during this research were: weight of hectoliter, chlorophyll content and protein content. The results obtained in this trial, from a random complete block design with four replicates per location, were submitted to an analysis of variance. Later, a joint analysis of treatments was carried out in a factorial way, where the single effects of harvesting time, location and interaction of harvesting time/location were studied. Significance of differences between means was analyzed through Tukey's test. In regard to yield and exportable quality, two harvesting times, 25 February and 5 March (14 and 15 weeks from sowing to maturity, respectively), proved to be the most adequate, showing yields ranging from 33 to 36 qq/ha, with chlorophyll contents approximating to 1.3% and protein contents ranging from 13 to 14%. The best locations for buckwheat growth were Pelchuquin and Lanco, which exhibited yields of 37 qq/ha, grain chlorophyll contents close to 1.3% and protein contents of 14%.
