Tissue culture of some estate crops at BORIEC (Bogor Research Institute for Estate Crops).
1988
Tahardi S.
The adoption of plant cell and tissue culture technology for solving the problems of vegetative propagation of some estate crops is in progress at the Bogor Research Institute for Estate Crops (BORIEC). Plantlet regeneration through somatic embryogenesis, organogenesis and embryo culture has been achieved for oil palm, coffee, cacao and coconut. Calli can be induced readily in leaf explants of oil palm and coffee, and are amenable to embryogenesis. Culture of immature zygotic embryo of cacao proliferated into asexual embryos and embryo of kopyor coconut through a culture sequence of liquid to agar media developed into a viable seedling. Acclimatization and transfer of these propagules from in vitro to in vivo conditions is in progress.
