Inheritance of a 1BL/1RS wheat-rye translocated chromosome in wheat.

Rayburn A.L. | Mornhinweg D.W.
In the Great Plains, winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) lines carrying the 1BS/1RL wheat-rye translocated chromosome are being used extensively in wheat breeding programs. This study was conducted to determine the influence of the 1BL/1RS chromosome on gametic transmission in adapted winter wheat backgrounds. Oklahoma experimental line OK83398 ('Aurora'/2 TAM W-101) was crossed to both 'Arkan' and 'Chisholm'. The F2 plants were analyzed as to their chromosomal composition using the chromosomal N-banding procedure. In both crosses a significant deviation of a 1 homozygous 1B:2 heterozygous:1 homozygous 1BL/1RS ratio at the P =0.05 level was observed. The transmission of gametes containing the 1BL/1RS translocated chromosome was observed to be reduced in F1 hybrids in winter wheat backgrounds.
