The article reviews the many uses of the baobab tree but dwells more on the nutritional aspect of the fruit. It is indicated that in Mali there can be a 3 fold difference in the concentration of vitamin C in the trees. It also shows that the traditional grouping of baobabs on the trunk colour is not a useful selection criteria for vitamin C content. Further study needs to be done to identify simple plant characteristics that might be linked to vitamin C content.
