Layer chickens on a commercial pullet farm were vaccinated once at 31 to 52 days of age by drinking water or aerosol. Serums of sample birds were tested at intervals for haemagglutination inhibiting antibody to Newcastle disease virus. Assumed protection levels of up to 81 percent were obtained within 4 weeks of vaccination. Laboratory trials found differences between breeds, vaccination routes, and between parallel laboratory and field trials. This vaccine can produce an adequate response following mass vaccination under commercial conditions. Care should be exercised in extrapolation of laboratory results to the field.
