Three insecticides viz. Coopex 25% WP, Methyl parathion 50% EC and Nurell-D 505 EC were applied to the plant leaf whorl at 20 days after germination and two intervals of 10 days thereafter at the rate of 617.5 gm per kg, 841 cc and 498.94 cc ai/ha, respectively. The objective was to test their efficacy against shootfly, Atherigona soccata (Rond.) and maize stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) during 1987 (cv. Sultan). Methyl parathion gave relatively better control of shootfly and maize stem borer and showed significant increase in gain weight (0.14 kg/cob), number of cobs (0.90/plant), stalk weight (6806.19 kg/cob), cob weight (4583.33 kg/ga) and cob + stalk weight (11389.52 kg/ha). Moreover, Methyl parathion was economical insecticide. Coopex proved weak insecticide.
