The results of studies on the numbers of ammonifying-, urea decomposing-, nitrifying (1 and 2 phase)-, nitrate reducing-, and denitrifying bacteria in water of Lake Mutek (eutrophic), Mazurian Lakeland. The lake was subjected to aeration during summer. Bacteria counts varied considerably both in the annual cycle and in different water layers. Usually less bacteria were present in winter and more in early spring, summer, sometimes autumn. Aeration caused an almost 10-fold increase of ammonifying, urea decomposing 1 phase nitrifying and NO3-N reducing bacteria, and a decrease of 2 phase nitrifying and denitrifying ones.
