La gestion en commun des forets: un pas decisif vers la constitution de triages modernes [Suisse].
1996
Mamarbachi A.
To fulfil the new structural conditions, joint forest management has been introduced and modern districts have been established in the forest division 1 of the canton of Fribourg since 1984. The forest owners and the forest service who employ permanent staff were animated to set up these new structures by a number of factors such as the fragmentation of communal forests, their small sizes, the calls for "close to nature" management, the decrease of agricultural labour, and the availability of qualified staff. Due to a number of parameters it is difficult to estimate the size of a management unit. We recommend the size to be between 500 ha and 800 ha in the valleys and between 800 ha and 1,200 ha in the mountainous areas. Until now we have established 15 modern districts, comprising 65 communes of the canton of Fribourg. The management of the forests has significantly improved since the introduction of the new structures.
