In the present paper the effects of nonpeptide hormones and of some of their chemical analogues on progesterone and testosterone production in granulosa cells of sow ovaries were investigated; the experiments were made in vitro. These hormonal preparations were used in the experiments: pFSH, synthetic oxytocin (OT), synthetic arginine-8-vasopressin (AVP), synthetic AVP with antidiuretic effects and synthetic arginine-8-vasotocin (AVT). Biological activities of AVP, AVT and OT were supposed to change in dependence on the luteinization phase of ovarian cells. The findings concerning the existence of relations between androgens (testosterone) and nonpeptide hormones are likely to be of primary importance and the fact that testosterone production is stimulated by OT, inhibited by AVP and AVT and influenced to a small extent by DK-OT is an original finding. The results of these experiments can demonstrate the entry of nonpeptide hormones into the regulatory mechanism of progesterone and testosterone secretion, and in this way a direct relationship with ovarian steroidogenesis is documented.
