This research considered the incorporation of prickly pear cladodes, dried and milled, in the anaerobic fermentation of goat manure, in various proportions from 0 to 100%. Incubation took place at 30 C, with 4% of total solids, in one litre-digesters. Analysis was done on: pH, electric conductivity, total and volatile solids, in pre and post-fermentation phases. The production of biogas was measured periodically. The results obtained show that the incorporation of prickly-pear cladodes in the goat manure fermentation process, is feasible, and shortens the starting time in the biodegradation, as related to manure alone; as long as the pH of the mixtures is kept within the neutral or slightly acid range. The pH is one of the most important characteristics in the degradation of these materials, and as such affects biogas production. According to the data gathered; a rural family of 5 people could fully cover their daily domestic energy needs, if they were to biodigest all the manure produced by a flock of 60 animals.
