إنجليزي. The chemical composition and the cell wall digestibility of 7 genotypes grown in 2 different locations in the Northeast Region of Portugal were analyzed. The lignin, hemicellulose and ash content were significantly (P<0,01) influenced by the location. Genotype was the main factor responsible for the cellulose and fiber content (P<0.01) and to a less extent for the hemicellulose percentage. The cell wall digestibility was equally dependent on the genotype and on the interaction of genotype x location. Although quite significantly dependent upon the genotype, location, and their interaction, the variation in crude protein was not considered to be important from a nutritional standpoint.

O factor local influencious significativamente o teor em cinzas, lenhina e hemicelulose (P<0,01). O factor genotipo foi o principal responsavel pelas variacoes do teor em celulose e em fibra (P<0,01) influenciando igualmente, embora em menor grau, o teor em hemicelulose. A digestibilidade da parede celular revelou-se dependente por igual do genotipo e da interaccao genotipo x local. As variacoes do teor em proteina (N x 6,25) embora significativamente dependentes do genotipo, do local e da interaccao entre ambos revalaram-se sem importancia do ponto de vista nutritivo.
