Remote sensing represents a valuable tool for observation of agricultural crops. The possibility of monitoring crop development using satellite remote sensing is one of the most significant application. Very important steps in this means were taken under LACIA and AGROSTARS programmes. When remotely sensed data used in crop monitoring the following can be fulfilled 1. crop identification and discrimination between different crops based on the spectral response. 2. estimation of cultivated area based on spatial resolution which represent a synoptic means of inventory of areas covered by specific crop. 3. yield forecasting and crop production based on the relationship between yield and spectral parameters. 4. monitoring the state of crops plant health and development of biomass based on spectral parameters and vegetation indices.
