Soil samples were taken from long-term field trials (lasting from 15 to 30 years) after wheat harvest and studied the effect of different fertilization systems on soil chemical properties, content of the most important biogenic elements and some heavy metals in soil. Compared with unfertilized plots, the application of different fertilization systems increased the content of biogenic elements and increased the content of heavy metals in a chernozem. Improvement of soil fertility in biogenic elements was most affected by mineral fertilizers and manure, followed by mineral fertilizers and harvest residues, while the lowest effects were achieved by the application of mineral fertilizers alone. However, all studied elements have been found to be within normal limits. Considering the increase of heavy metals content, the most unfavourable effects were achieved with mineral fertilizers in combination with liquid manure.
