By means of trapping and using the synthetic sexual pheromone of the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda, the fluctuating population of this pest was determined for the spring and summer agricultural cycles in 1986 and 1987. The highest adult incidence occurred when the corn crop was from 20 to 28 days old. The most significant correlation coefficients were obtained when the average catch of adults and the height of the plant were compared; that is the physiology of the corn is the main factor influencing the population dynamics of S. frugiperda. The largest adult populations were observed during the driest days and the lowest during the rain season.

Por medio del trampeo y usando la feromona sexual sintetica del gusano cogollero Spodoptera frugiperda, se determino la fluctuacion poblacional de esta plaga para los ciclos agricolas primavera-verano 1986 y 1987. La mayor incidencia de adultos se presento de los 20 a los 28 dias de edad del cultivo de maiz. Los coeficientes de correlacion mas significativos se obtuvieron al comparar las capturas promedio de adultos y la altura de la planta, lo que indica que la fenologia del maiz es el principal factor que influye en la dinamica poblacional de S. frugiperda. Las mayores poblaciones de adultos fueron observadas durante los dias mas secos, y las mas bajas, durante el periodo de lluvias.
