Solar spectral irradiance in cultivated plants under cover in submontane region. Pt. 3. Sweet pepper plants in the plastic tunnels.

Czarnkowski M. | Cebula S.
The aim of the investigations was to determine the effect of the leaf area index (LAI) on the spectral changes in solar irradiance in sweet pepper cultivation. The basic optical properties (reflectance, transmittance, and absorptance) of sweet pepper leaves were determined too. The obtained results demonstrate that leaves of higher plants are structurally and functionally well disposed to absorption of solar energy, especially in the physiologically important range of photosynthetically active radiation (400-700 nm, PAR) and to reflection and transmission of irradiation of preventive character, mainly in the near infrared region (700-1100 nm).
