Important hydrologic information has been developed in temperate zones, under low steep gradient and large areas, showing a very different hydrologic performance in relation to steeped and small tropical watersheds, which are frequently the diagnostic and planning units in Venezuela. These differences lead us to validate the SWRRB model in our conditions. The sediment yield component of the model was validated in a 125 hectares Watershed of permanent stream flow, steep gradient of 35 percentage, sandy loam soils, seasonally distributed rainfall and grassland vegetation, located near Macapo, Cojedes State, Venezuela. Model inputs were obtained directly on field. Simulated sediment yield was compared with soil losses measured in erosion plots. In a addition, other validation was performed using indirect input data (values proposed by model developers). Sediment yield was very sensitive to Curve Number and soil erodability. This fact shows the risk involved in using indirect inputs. Results allow us to conclude that model use is only recommended to determine trends between sectors and management types in terms of land degradation risk.
