Untersuchungen zur radioaktiven Belastung von Pilzen in Nordrhein-Westfalen.
1989
Wollenweber H.
The content of radioactive 134- and 137 caesium in several mushroom species in North Rhine-Westphalia has been determined between 1986 and 1988. Among the edible mushroom, Xercomus species, such as X. badius and X. chrysenteron accumulate very efficiently those radionuclides. The highest concentration of these isotopes in X. badius is found on sandy soils, it peaked during 1987 and decreased significantly during 1988. Concepts of "Radiobiology" are explained and the danger associated with mushroom consumption is discussed. It is important for the mushroom consumer to know, that about 80 per cent of the radioactive content can be dealt with by simply throwing away the water used to boil the mushrooms during their preparation.
