The authors present the preliminary analysis of the variation of the flow resistance in the Middle Odra river bed in cross sections Malczyce and Scinawa for different discharges Q. The flow resistance has been estimated on the base of the Manning-Strickler formula. The authors have got a relation k(Q) having a wave form, with inflexions in zone of bank-low and bank-medium stages. The determined curves k(Q) for both gauging sections have a similar form. In zone of bank-low and bank-medium stages, the values of velocity coefficient k are contained in wide ranges from 24 to 52. The variation of velocity coefficient during floods is small, with values between 35 and 42.
