Private profitability and international competitiveness of maize crop.

The study was conducted during 1986-87 to determine private profitability, dependence on foreign exchange and international competitiveness of maize crop at various technology levels. Data collected from Toba Tek Singh district were used to estimate various parameters of competitiveness. The results showed that at present domestic prices, maize production was profitable to the producers. Every acre of maize adds $21.36 and saves Rs.6138 in foreign exchange. Maize proved to be inefficient as an export crop. However, maize used less amount foreign exchange (av. 75% FED).
