To stimulate domestic development of pear bags to improve fruit qualities, physical characteristics of triple-bag of Tottori-Ken Agricultural Coooperative in Japan, double-bag of Ilsim paper Bag Manufactuary Co. in Korea and dobule -newspaper bag were measured and the effect of bags on the fruit qualities were studied using Niidaka pear. Light transmittance of the bags was higher in the order of Ilsim paper Bag Manufactuary Co. product, Tottori-Ken Agricultural Cooperative product and newspaper bag. Light transmittances were increased by using, especially in newspaper bag. Fruit skin temperature within bags at daytime was higher in the order of Tottori-Ken Agricultural Cooperative product, Ilsim paper Bag Manufactuary Co. Product, control (no bagging) and newspaper bag. Water absorbancy of newspaper bag was much higher than those of Tottori-Ken Agricultural Cooperative product and Ilsim paper Bag Manufactuary Co. product. In newspaper bag, the changes of water absorbancy and wet strength by using were greatest. The broken-bag rate and the comstock mealybuck injury of Tottori-Ken Agricultural Cooperative product and Ilsim Paper Bag Manufactuary Co. product were nearly negligible but those of newspaper bag were very severe. Development of fruit skin suberization was higher in the order of control, newspaper bag, Ilsim paper Bag Manufactuary Co. product and TottoriKen Agricultural Cooperative product. Chrolophylls content was higher in the order of control, Ilsim Paper Bag Manufactuary Co. product, Tottori-Ken Agricultural Cooperative product and newspaper bag. Newspaper bag produced many ink-spotted fruits. By all accounts, skin finish was the best in Tottori-Ken Agricultural Cooperative product, the second in Ilsim Paper Bag Manufactuary Co. product, the third in newspaper bag, and the last in control. There was little difference in fruit weight, fruit hardness, soluble solids content and acidity among treatments; however the eating qualities of the fruits in newspaper bag and in control were lower than those in Tottori-Ken Agricultural Cooperative product and in Ilsim Paper Bag Manufactuary Co. product.
