In the three field experiments the reactions of Juno and Manru cultivars on the term of sowing and initial moisture of sowing material was studied. The effect of seed water content of both cultivars on their vigour and survival under imbibitional chilling stress was significant. However, the influence of seed water content on the field emergence, plant healthiness and yielding was found to be small. Delay of the term of sowing of self-ripening Manru cultivar caused 30 percent decrease of seed yield (three times higher than of thermo-neutral Juno cultivar). All lupine cultivated on a weak rye complex gave a higher seed yield and yielding stability than on a very good rye complex, especially in the years with low precipitations.
