Field experiment to study the effect of gliricidia leaf and lime on upland rice-soybean and upland rice-mungbean cropping patterns were conducted growing season at Bumi Asih, Tanah Laut District in 1992/93 and 1993/94 on Red Yellow Podzolic soil. The treatments consisted of various combination of gliricidia leaf dosage i.e., 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 t/ha; and lime dosage i.e., 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 Al-exchangable equivalent. The treatment were arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design with three replication and plot size of 4.0 x 6.0 m. The first crops (upland rice) were treated with the full dosage of the above treatment combination, while the second crops (soybean and mungbean) were treated with only a half of the given dosages. Lime and gliricidia leaf were applied in the soil two week and one week before planting. All plots were treated with NPK fertilizer, i.e. 90-90-60 for upland rice and 22.5-75-45 for soybean and mungbean. The lime, gliricidia leaf, and NPK fertilizer were applied in furrow along the plants in rows. The results of the experiment showed that the two ameliorant (gliricidia leaf and lime) affected the upland rice, soybean and mungbean. Applying gliricidia leaf and lime together resulted in better yield than applying the two ameliorant individually. The highest yield were obtained at the treatment combination of 5.0 t/ha gliricidia leaf and 1.0 Al-exchangable lime, but yield of upland rice, soybean and mungbean are not significant with applied at treatment combination of 5.0 t/ha gliricidia leaf and 0.5 Al-exchangable lime.
