Economically important demersal fish off Chanthaburi was investigated 3 times by Research Vessel Pramong Talay 15 in January 1991. Fish samples were collected from 6 zones of different depth, namely, 0.-10 m (D-1), 10-20 m (D-2), 20-30 m (D-3), 30-40 m (D-4), 40-50 m and 50-60 m (D-6), by other-board bottom trawl. The trawl net was 39.5 m in head rope length and cod-end of 4 cm in mesh size with cover net of 2 cm in mesh size. Twenty-four families were encountered. Main families were Scolopsidae, Synodontidae, Balistidae, Nemipteridae, Priacanthidae, Mullidae, Serranidae, Lutjanidae, Platycephalidae and Sphyraenidae, comprising of 98 % of the total density. There were 9 dominant species comprising of 74 % of the total density. Saurida issarankurai was predominant and other 8 dominant species are S. elongata, S. undosquamis, Lutjanus lineolatus, Scolopsis taeniopterus, Nemipterus mesoprion, N. hexodon, Priacanthus tayenus and Alutera monoceros. Zonation of fish communities by depth in the survey area was clearly shown by similarity index (C). Economically important fish exists only in the zone deeper than 10 m. Moreover, there is a significant difference in the distribution patterns between species.
