It was found that the total number of Actinomycetes as well as the number of their fungistatic forms were correlated positively with the silt and clay content in the soil. In loamy sand the counts were 8 times higher than those for loose sandy soil. The stress resulting from a change in moisture conditions reduced the number of Actinomycetes. Their development was most severely stunted with a long and serious deficit of water and poor in the conditions of a permanently increased level of humidity, with the total number of Actinomycetes dropping more sharply than the number of their fungistatic forms.
